Art Deco silver leaf water gild

Art Deco reproduction of original glass facade. This cafe adjoined a theatre that had originally been constructed in the early 1930’s. After it’s closure it had become somewhat derelict before funding was raised to restore it to it’s former glory. During the renovation the original hand painted signs were discovered behind the facade. Albeit in very poor condition they were barely legible enough to take paper templates from, from which reproductions could be made. All work completed by hand on reverse side of glass using traditional hand painted signwriting techniques, including water gilding, silver leaf, mirror silvering and traditional brushwork before being back sprayed with a translucent milk white to aid nightime illumination.
